Cellar Cal Pla is located at Porrera in Priorat. Their vineyards are located between 300 and 500m are mainly north-east facing and enjoy the benefits of a Meditteranean climate. The topsoil in Porrera is composed of slate and quartz-rock, appears dark grey and often nearly black. Beneath this there is a base of reddish slate with particles of quartz rock locally known as 'Llicorella', high in mineral content. The Cal Pla Tinto Crianza is a blend of 50% Garnacha, 45% Cariņena and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged 12 months on lees in American (40%) and French (60%) oak. Average yield per vine 1.5kg. The wine was bottled in November with no clarification or filtration. Bright red ruby colour. Damson fruit with nutmeg, cinnamon and white pepper nose. A wine of character, medium bodied, dry, concentrated redcurrant and blackcurrant, gooseberry fruit with good acidity and soft leathery tannins. Lingering finish. Production: 30,000 bottles. Very good value for a Priorat red.
