Almost all of the wine grown in the Beaujolais region is red and is made from the Gamay grape. The best of the wines in Beaujolais, which bear no resemblance to Beaujolais Nouveau, are from any of the 10 best "cru" villages - these are Fleurie, Saint-Amour, Juliénas, Chénas, Moulin-A-Vent, Chiroubles, Morgon, Regnié, Cote de Brouilly and Brouilly. These "cru" wines can be a lot darker and fuller-bodied than some of the cheaper wines. Moulin-A-Vent produces some of the bigger, fuller-bodied wines such as the Chateau des Jacques from Maison Louis Jadot. Jadot also have some very good single vineyard wines such as "Clos de Rochegrés". The more elegant, silkier and medium to light bodied styles tend to come from villages such as Fleurie and Juliénas.
