Description

Le Cedre Malbec Vintage is a sweet, fortified red wine from Cahors made by Cedre Diffusion. Chateau de Cedre has been owned and run by brothers Pascal et Jean-Marc Verhaeghe since 1988. The estate comprises of some 27 hectares of vineyards planted with 90% Malbec, 5% Merlot and 5% Tannat as well as some white grape varieties (Viognier, Semillon, Muscadelle and Sauvignon). Cedre Diffusion was set up in 1995 by Chateau du Cedre to sell wine in partnership with other estates that the brothers work and advise. The grapes for the Cedre Heritage Malbec come from the two different types of soils in Cahors – the terroirs composed of stony clay and limestone, give straight wines with fine tannins, whereas more powerful and dense wines derive from soils composed of clay, sand and rich in pebbles. Le Cedre Malbec Vintage is vinified from late-picked Malbec grapes and then has a neutral alcholic spirit (grape brandy) added prior to the completion of fermentation, meaning that a good amount of residual sugar is left in the wine. Thus this wine classified as a Vin de Liqueur and is therefore equivalent to its geographical cousins Pineau des Charentes, Floc de Gascogne and Macvin de Jura.rn The wine is aged for 1 year in old 500 litre oak vats and is bottled at a strength of 16.5% and with residual sugar content of 100 g/L.
