St. Helena Estate Pinot Grigio is made from 100% Pinot Grigio (Pinot Gris) grapes sourced from the Canterbury wine-growing region of New Zealand.
About St Helena Wines
Sitting just north of the City of Christchurch in the rich tapestry of New Zealand’s Canterbury wine growing region is the St Helena Wine Estate. Founded in 1978 by the Mundy family, the vineyard takes maximum advantage of the region’s long, warm summers and dry autumns. Canterbury is an ideal climate for producing some of the best premium grapes the Southern Hemisphere has to offer. The result is a stunning selection of wines produced from the winery’s 20 hectare estate. As well as wines from Canterbury, the estate also has contracts with growers in Marlborough for premium quality Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Gewurztraminer grapes. As well as St Helena wines, the company also produce the ENZED and Flying Kiwi brands.
A Canterbury Pinot Noir Pioneer
In fact, St Helena is acknowledged as the pioneer in establishing premium Pinot Noir for New Zealand. Owners Robin and Bernice Mundy and award-winning winemaker Alan McCorkindale are passionate in their dedication to producing exceptional fruit and wines from the vineyard and the continuing development of Canterbury as one of New Zealand’s finest wine-producing regions.
Pinot Grigio was harvested from St. Helena’s Canterbury vineyards in perfect condition and optimum maturity. St Helena Pinot Grigio is a medium-bodied wine with a refreshing and full palate showing ripe pear and apricot, along with a touch of spice. It has a full-bodied oily palate typical of Pinot Grigio, and a nutty, drying finish. This wine shows lifted notes of pear and apricot, supported by underlying breadcrust and marzipan with delicate floral notes.
Pinot Grigio is primarily grown in regions like Marlborough and Canterbury. Thriving in the country’s cool-climate vineyards, this wine often features notes of green apple, pear, and citrus, with a zesty acidity and a clean, mineral-driven finish.
Crafted by estates like St Helena Wine Estate, New Zealand Pinot Grigio offers a lighter, more aromatic alternative to richer whites, pairing perfectly with seafood, salads, or light appetisers, making it a versatile choice for any occasion.
