Villa Mosavali Saperavi Fortified Red Wine is a fortified red wine, made in a similar way to Port wine, made in Georgia using 100% Saperavi and then fortified.
The Mosavali Winery has been producing wine since 2018. The winery owns vineyards, totalling around 40 hectares, in some of the best wine-growing regions of Georgia including Kakheti and Kartli. The winery itself is located in the village of Akhalubani in the Mtskheta Municipality of eastern Georgia.
Villa Mosavili focuses on blending ancient Georgian winemaking traditions with contemporary practices. They use “qvevri” (large clay vessels buried underground) for fermenting and ageing wine, a method that dates back over 8,000 years. They also produce wines using stainless steel and oak barrels to offer a diverse range of styles. As well as a winery the site also features a hotel, bars and three restaurants, including one Western and one Georgian, where visitors can enjoy the wines.
The company cultivates several grape varietals (including Saperavi, Rkatsitel and Goruli Mtsvane) across diverse soils with varying levels of sun exposure. In addition to traditional wines, they also produce fortified wines, the Georgian spirit Chacha, and a Georgian brandy. Annual production is around 100,000 bottles. The grapes are harvested by hand and placed in small trays, ensuring that they arrive at the winery in the best condition and as soon as possible. The wines are aged in cellars at a depth of 4 metres which provides the perfect temperature and humidity for ageing wine.
The grapes for the Villa Mosavali Saperavi Fortified Red Wine come from a vineyard located in the Dedophlistskaro region, in the village of Kvemo-Kedi, 730 meters above sea level. Vineyard work is performed manually, and grapes are harvested by hand to ensure the highest quality. This wine is made by adding a grape spirit or brandy to red wine to fortify it. It is then aged barrels prior to release.
Villa Mosavali Saperavi Fortified Red Wine is a rich, dark cherry-hued wine crafted from handpicked Saperavi grapes, this remarkable wine showcases vibrant flavours and aromas of cherry and wild berries. The wine is enriched with the addition of brandy spirits which preserves the natural sweetness. Barrel ageing lends a smooth, velvety texture and a beautifully balanced finish.
Serve with berry fruit or chocolate dessert or with a cheeseboard.
