Mezcal Rosaluna Joven is a smooth, approachable Mezcal crafted for those who enjoy agave character without overpowering smoke. Made from 100% espadín agave in Oaxaca, it delivers fresh citrus, light herbal notes, and a gentle, balanced smokiness, ideal for sipping or elevating cocktails. Bottled at 40% ABV.
Mezcal Rosaluna is distilled by a brother and sister team in the rolling hills of Santiago, Matatlán, the heartland of mezcal in Oaxaca, Mexico – also known as “The World Capital of Mezcal”. The company is “vertically integrated”: this means that they grow, farm, ferment, and distil their own agave from start to finish.
Mezcal isn’t just any spirit. It is a very special spirit distilled from the heart of the maguey (agave) plant; its very name comes from the Nahuatl word “mexicalli,” which beautifully translates to “oven-cooked agave.”
In general, Mezcal (or Mescal) can be produced from up to 18 different agave varieties. This particular mezcal is made from espadín agave (also known as “smallsword”), whose scientific name is Agave angustifolia. In contrast, tequila is a specific type of mezcal which can only be made from the Blue Agave.
Harvesting agave is labour‑intensive. Skilled workers called jimadores cut the agave “pina” (or “pineapple”) from the plant, a process known as jima. The agave used for this mezcal is left to grow for eight years before harvesting. Once the piñas are collected, they are roasted in wood‑fired, tapered stone ovens, which gives the mezcal its characteristic smoky flavour. After roasting, the agave is crushed, then fermented with water and yeast to create the alcoholic liquid that will later be distilled.
The agave mash undergoes a double distillation process, begun by adding fermented agave juice and fibre to copper pot stills for the first distillation. For the second distillation, they take the head and heart of the first distillation and distill it once more. This process refines the low wines into the final spirit and magic of Rosaluna mezcal.
The goal at Rosaluna is to create the very best mezcal while honouring the land and traditional methods, ensuring a sustainable future for people and the environment. With this commitment in mind, Rosaluna has earned a strong reputation for eco‑friendly production: agave waste is reused as natural fertiliser, plant fibre is used for the labels, bottles are made from 40% recycled glass, and the estate has recently cut its water usage by 80%.

Method
Add all ingredients to a mixing glass with ice. Stir to dilute for 15 seconds. Strain into a rocks glass with a large ice cube and garnish with a marigold flower.
Is Mezcal always very smoky?
No. Smoke is a common feature of Mezcal, but the level of smokiness varies a lot depending on the agave, production method and distiller’s style. Rosaluna is positioned as a less smoky Mezcal, so it’s made for people who want a softer profile.
Is Mezcal just another word for Tequila?
No. Tequila is a type of Mezcal, but it can only be made from blue agave and is produced under different rules. Mezcal can be made from several agave varieties, which gives it a wider flavour range.
Is mezcal too strong for cocktails?
No. A well-made Mezcal can be excellent in cocktails because it adds depth, complexity and a savoury edge. Rosaluna works especially well in classic agave cocktails like a Margarita or Paloma.
