Precocious by Raimes Rosé 2025 | English Rosé Wine from Hampshire

Precocious by Raimes Rosé 2025 is a distinctive English still rosé from Hampshire, made entirely from Pinot Noir Précoce. Produced by one of our favourite Hampshire sparkling wine producers, this is a dry, fresh and beautifully fruit-driven wine; it combines vibrant red berry character with juicy cherry and delicate wildflower notes.

Precocious offers a fresh perspective on the early-ripening Pinot Noir Précoce grape. At 12.5% ABV and suitable for vegans and vegetarians, it is an elegant, easy-drinking Hampshire rosé wine that works equally well as an aperitif or alongside food.

100% Pinot Noir Précoce Rosé

The name Precocious is fitting – Pinot Noir Précoce is an early-ripening relative of Pinot Noir, well suited to England’s cool-climate conditions because it reaches maturity earlier in the growing season.

Raimes uses Pinot Noir Précoce in their sparkling wines, but in this case it is used to produce a dry English rosé with a clear sense of freshness and red-fruit character. The result is a wine that sits comfortably alongside the growing number of high-quality still rosés being produced in southern England.

The 2025 vintage shows bright, juicy cherry and red berry flavours, lifted by floral wildflower notes. The palate is fresh and dry rather than sweet, with the naturally vibrant acidity associated with English wine providing energy and balance.

Raimes English Wine, From a Family-Owned Farm

Raimes is owned by the fifth generation of the Raimes family, Augusta and Robert. The family have been farmers in Hampshire for five generations, with land on the historic Tichborne Estate where they grow wheat, barley and oilseed rape and also raise a herd of traditional pedigree Hereford cattle. Situated, as they are, on the chalky soils of the South Downs, I guess it was only a matter of time before they started growing grapes for sparkling wine production.

Their first 10 acres of vineyards were planted in 2010 with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier – the holy trinity of sparkling wine production. As well as this English rosé wine, Raimes also produce a Classic Brut, a Blanc de Noirs, a Blanc de Blancs, Rosé and Demi-Sec. Their wines are always produced as a vintage.

Vineyards Close to Alresford

The Raimes vineyard is located near the village of Tichborne, close to Alresford, in the South Downs. The chalky soils of the South Downs are essentially the same lump of chalk which runs from the soils of Champagne, under the channel, to the white cliffs of Dover, through Kent and Sussex and into Hampshire. The chalk lends a particular minerality that helps to achieve a delicate balance of ripeness, acidity and berry aroma.
