This 40-year-old Armagnac is 100% natural, bottled with no added sugar, caramel, or artificial colouring. Whether you are seeking a truly memorable 40th birthday present, a 40th (Ruby) wedding anniversary gift, or simply a magnificent digestif to savour, this bottle offers unparalleled complexity, age, and luxury.
The Art of Les Grands Assemblages: while vintage-dated Armagnacs showcase the character of a single harvest, the Les Grands Assemblages range from Maison Darroze highlights the master blender’s craft. By marrying multiple casks of varying ages from top Bas-Armagnac estates, where every component is at least 40 years old, Darroze achieves perfect balance, harmonising fiery fruit power with four decades of subtle wood influence.
Maison Darroze is a family-owned house dedicated to showcasing the authentic diversity of Gascony’s historic spirit. The story of Armagnac Darroze begins with Chef Marc Darroze, who ran a successful Gascon restaurant at Villeneuve-de-Marsan, in the department of Landes, southwest France. His son Francis entered the business and also became enamoured with the culinary arts, fine wines and the fine eaux-de-vie of Gascony. By the late 1960s, Francis had begun to visit Armagnac, buying, maturing and selecting bottles, and Darroze Armagnac was born.
Darroze works with around thirty domaines who supply the company with eaux-de-vie, which are then matured at one of two family cellars in Roquefort and Labastide d’Armagnac. Today the company is run by Marc Darroze, Francis’s son.
At the heart of Maison Darroze is a commitment to artisanal craftsmanship and an unyielding standard for premium Bas-Armagnac. The house operates on four core principles:
The Darroze collection comprises rare, vintage and historical bottlings, alongside eaux-de-vie directly from the stills of small producers.
Appearance: Deep amber with mahogany highlights.
Nose: Astonishingly complex and aromatic. Intensely expressive with notes of dried fig, prune, leather, candied orange peel, pipe tobacco, and toasted walnuts, underpinned by exquisite, mature rancio notes.
Palate: Silky, round, and remarkably smooth at 43% ABV. Rich flavours of dark chocolate, dried fruit, cocoa, baking spices, and old oak melt across the palate with complete elegance.
Finish: Exceptionally long, warm, and memorable, leaving lingering echoes of liquorice, spice, and polished wood.
How should I serve Darroze 40-year-old Armagnac?
Serve at room temperature in a tulip-shaped glass or a balloon Cognac glass. Allow the spirit to breathe in the glass for 5 to 10 minutes before tasting to let its 40 years of aromas open up fully.
How long does a bottle of 40-year-old Armagnac last once opened?
Because Armagnac stops ageing once bottled, an open bottle stored upright in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight will maintain its superb quality for 1 to 2 years or longer.
