Louis Jadot Gevrey Chambertin Clos Saint Jacques is a 1er cru red wine from Burgundy. Gevrey Chambertin is the most northern of the great communes of the Côte de Nuits. There are 26 Premiers Crus and 8 Grands Crus. One half of Premiers crus is around Grands Crus (near Morey), the other is at the north near la Combe de Lavaux, with a clayey and chalky soil.
The Clos Saint Jacques vineyard comprises 6.7 hectares and is located at the beginning of the Combe de lavaux valley. Louis Jadot own 1 hectare. It is very nicely South-East oriented and there are only five owners of this prestigious Clos which many have argued should really be classified as a Grand Cru. The vineyard is names after a statue of St James that was placed there to mark it as a resting point for travellers making the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela.
Louis Jadot Gevrey Chambertin Clos Saint Jacques is fermented in vats for 3 to 4 weeks and then aged in oak barrels for 18 to 20 months before bottling.
