Description

Leopold Bros Three Pins Alpine Herbal Liqueur is an American liqueur made at a family owned and operated small batch distillery located in Colorado. At Leopold Bros Distillery they do everything on site, they malt the barley, mill the grains, ferment the mash mash and distill various spirits. They are quite famous for Silver Tree Vodka and Leopold Bros Gin but they also make quite a large range of liqueurs from all sorts of natural ingredients. No artificial ingredients are used. The fact that this is called Leopold Bros Three Pins Alpine Herbal Liqueur gives you a clue as to it inspiration. I suspect a few bottles of Genepi (or maybe relatives like Chartreuse and Absinthe) were consumed during the R&D for this liqueur. Obviously, like all of these drinks, the recipe for this fantastic herbal digestif (an Alpine Amaro) is a secret but it is made by macerating Alpine herbs with a collection of over a dozen herbs, flowers and roots from the Rocky Mountains. The botanicals all come from above the treeline and include California Poppy, Ginkgo Biloba, Echinacea, Coriander, and Orange Zest. These are all mixed with a neutral spirit and thaged aged in small glass carboys. When the time is right, the botanicals are strained from the liqueur, and it is bottled unfiltered. The liqueur is then thickened using peaches instead of the xanthan gum that more commercial producers use. Why is it called Three Pins? This derived from the old fashioned Telemark ski bindings, secured by three pins, that leave the heel of the boot free to lift from the ski, an acknowledgment of this liqueurs Alpine roots. Only made in very small quantities.
