Rittenhouse Rye BIB is the “Bottled in Bond” version of Rittenhouse Straight Rye whisky. Bottled in Bond whisky is a Straight Whisky that has been aged for at least 4 years in a federally bonded warehouse. It must also be the product of one distiller, at one distillery from one single distilling season (January to December). Bottled in Bond Whisky has to be bottled at 100% Proof, i.e. 50% abv. These stipulations were laid out in the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897 which was brought in to help prevent the adulteration of American whisky. Rittenhouse Rye Whisky is one of the many brands of American whiskies made by Heaven Hill. Heaven Hill was founded shortly after the repeal of Prohibition in 1933 and has since become the largest independent, family-owned producer and marketer of distilled spirits in the United States. They are also responsible for many other whisky brands including Evan Williams, Pikesville, Elijah Craig and Old Fitzgerald. Heaven Hill is located in Bardstown, Kentucky and are the world’s econd largest holder of Bourbon whiskey with over 1,000,000 charred white oak barrels ageing in 49 open-rick warehouses. All of their rye and wheat influenced bourbons as well as straight rye, corn and wheat whiskies are double-distilled by master distillers Parker and Craig Beam at their modern Bernheim facility. These are all made using their own family yeast strain—now in its fifth generation! Rye Whisky by law has to have a mash bill containing at least 51% rye, this is alongside the other ingredients which are normally corn and malted barley. Rye whiskey was very popular in the Northeastern states of the USA, especially Pennsylvania, and Rittenhouse Bottled in Bond Straight Rye Whiskey is produced on the classic Pennsylvania or “Monongahela” style with a very high rye content.
