Description

Nocturno Tinto is made by Vinhos Damasceno at Quinta da Serralheira in Palmela, Setubal. It is a red wine made from a blend Castelao, Aragonez and Syrah. Vinhos Damasceno is based on the Setubal peninsula, a neglected wine-growing region to the south of Lisbon, most famous for its fantastic Moscatel de Setubal dessert wines. Damasceno was founded in the early 2000s and the first vintage was released in 2003. They have some 25 to 30 hectares of vineyard planted on sandy soils with Castelao, Aragonez, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon grape varieties for the red wines and Moscatel Graudo, Fernao Pires and Arinto for the white wines. Vinhos Damasceno produce young, fruit driven wines and havest their wines at night, hence the Nocturno label, to preserve freshness of the grapes as they travel from vineyard to the winery. You will also find the words “Colheita Nocturna” and “Night Harvest” on the label. David Rego is in day to day charge, with the well-known advisor Nuno Cancela de Abreu acting as consultant oenologist. Nocturno Tinto is fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks.
