Auchentoshan 12 Year Old Whisky is a Lowland Single Malt Whisky. It is is distilled by Auchentoshan, which was founded in 1823, and is the closest distillery to Glasgow producing a Lowland Single Malt. It is currently owned by Beam Suntory Inc. Auchentoshan is pronounced “ockuntoshun”, which translates as “the field of the corner” in Gaelic. Auchentoshan is one of only 6 Lowland distilleries, the others being Bladnoch, Glenkinchie, Ailsa Bay, Annandale and the brand new Daftmill Distillery. Unusually for a Scotch whisky distillery, Auchentoshan practices triple distillation. The whisky is first distilled twice in two copper stills and it then distilled a third time in the “intermediate still”.
