Cantine Florio Targa Riserva 1840 is a premium Marsala Superiore Riserva Semisecco produced by the historic Italian winery Cantine Florio in Sicily. This exceptional semi-dry fortified wine represents the finest expression of Marsala Superiore DOC, crafted in the traditional production zone of Trapani province in Sicily.
Cantine Florio boasts a remarkable Italian wine heritage and can trace its beginnings back to 1833 when Vincenzo Florio established this family winery in Sicily by building his famous wine cellars. This Florio wine legacy spans nearly two centuries of traditional Sicilian winemaking excellence.
To create this distinguished dessert wine, carefully selected Grillo grapes undergo meticulous traditional winemaking processes. After harvest selection, grapes are pressed, and the resulting must ferments to completion. Once fermentation is finished, a robust and full-bodied base wine emerges. The next critical step involves adding grape alcohol to increase the wine’s alcoholic strength, following time-honoured Italian wine craftsmanship methods.
Florio Targa Superiore Riserva Marsala showcases the complexity that comes from using premium Grillo grape wine aged for at least seven years in Slavonian oak casks. This extended oak ageing process produces a smooth, elegant wine with rich flavour complexity and refined character. The Riserva classification ensures this amber-colored wine meets the highest quality standards through careful oxidative maturation.
As a Semisecco classification, the Florio Targa Riserva 1840 Marsala Superiore Riserva Semisecco offers balanced sweetness with honeyed notes and sophisticated flavour development. This after-dinner wine provides a more indulgent experience compared to its stablemate, the drier Florio Terre Arse, making it an ideal dessert wine pairing and meditation wine for discerning enthusiasts of fine Italian wines.
Enveloping aromas of pastry cream and ripe fruits are captured in the glass. Sapid and harmonious, Targa delights with its warm amber colour.
Try with ricotta or marscapone cheese-based desserts, blue cheeses or dried fruit.
