Rodney Strong Sonoma County Chardonnay is white wine made by Rodney Strong Vineyards. Rodney Strong Vineyards was founded by professional dancer Rodney Strong in 1959 and he was one of the pioneers responsible for transforming Sonoma County’s reputation from that of rustic farmland into that of one of the USA’s premium wine-growing regions. Rodney Strong Vineyards was sold to the current owner, Tom Klein, in 1989 but Strong remained on as as a consultant until retiring in 1995. Today RSV owns vineyards ranging from the northern stretches of the Alexander Valley. to the ends of the Sonoma Coast, to Sonoma County where the core of the 12 estate vineyards are located.
Rodney Strong Sonoma County Chardonnay is made from a combination of estate grown and locally farmed fruit, grown in the Russian River Valley, Alexander Valley, and Sonoma Coast appellations. The west and southwestern regions of Sonoma County are ideal for growing chardonnay grapes. The cool maritime influence of the Pacific Ocean arriving reliably in the form of fog each summer evening maintains the bright natural acidity that is key to the balance of any fine Chardonnay, while the warm summer afternoons ensure plenty of ripe fruit character. 60% barrel fermented, 40% cold fermented in stainless steel. Barrel fermented portion aged 5 months in oak, American and French. 60% malolactic fermentation.
