Maison Louis Jadot

Louis Jadot is one of the largest and most famous wine producers and negociants in the Burgundy wine-growing region. The origins of the company date back to 1859 when the business was founded by Louis Henry Denis Jadot. Over time, the company has acquired plots of vines in some of the most prestigious vineyards in the region, including Beaune Clos des Ursules, Chambertin Clos de Bèze, and many more.

Louis Jadot owns or directly controls 120 hectares in the Côte d’Or, including over 90 individual vineyard sites, 84 hectares in the Beaujolais Crus and 18 hectares in the Mâconnais, primarily in Pouilly-Fuissé (they own the fantastic Domaine Ferret). Today, the business is headed by Pierre-Henry Gagey, son of André Gagey, who was entrusted with the management of Louis Jadot in 1962 by Madame Jadot following the tragic death of her son.

Chassagne-Montrachet Vineyards

Situated in the south of the Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet is one of the 5 villages of the prestigious Côte de Blancs. Facing east and south-east, the white Premier Cru soils are mainly made of brown clay and limestone. Chassagne Montrachet produces 70 hectares of premiers crus. The Morgeot vineyard is one of the top two or three 1er Crus (climats) in the village.

From Domaine Duc de Magenta

The wine is made from grapes from Domaine Duc de Magenta, for whom Louis Jadot exclusively vinifies and distributes wines, and has done on a very long-term basis. The Clos de La Chapelle is the vineyard within Morgeot from which the grapes are sourced from which surrounds an old chapel. In addition, the whole vineyard is owned by Domaine Duc de Magenta – so it is classed as a monopole as well (literally monopoly). The first Duc was Marshall MacMahon victor of Magenta, ennobled by Napoleon 111 and first President of the 3rd Republic.

Vinification

Louis Jadot Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Monopole Clos de la Chapelle is made from hand-harvested Chardonnay grapes, which are placed into small cases in order not to damage the fruit. Grapes are pressed softly, then fermented in oak barrels, which are produced by Jadot’s own cooperage. One third are new oak barrels. Ageing usually lasts 15 months on fine lies before bottling.

Tasting Notes

Louis Jadot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Monopole Clos de la Chapelle has a brilliant golden colour.

Its nose reveals crisp stone fruits like peach and apricot, citrus zest, buttered toast, grilled hazelnuts, and subtle floral and mineral notes.

On the palate, it offers a rich, satiny texture with vibrant acidity, balancing ripe pear, white peach, creamy vanilla, and toasty oak. This medium to full-bodied wine finishes with a long, mineral-driven elegance, promising further complexity with cellaring.

Food Pairing

Try with creamy seafood like lobster thermidor, seared scallops or roasted chicken with herb butter

It also works well with a creamy mushroom risotto or roasted cauliflower with truffle oil which enhances its complex, mineral-driven profile.

For the cheeseboard, try with a hard mature cheese like Comté.
