Chateau Labegorce, Margaux

Description

Chateau Labegorce is property located in the Margaux wine-growing appellation of Bordeaux. It is situated to the north of the village of Margaux itself on the famous “Route des Chateaux” next door to Chateau Lascombes.

Chateau Labegorce was acquired by the Perrodo family in 1989 after Huberto Perrodo, had become enamoured by the Margaux region whilst attending polo matches at nearby Chateau Giscours. In 2005 the family acquired Chateau Labegorce-Zede and the two domaines were merged into Chateau Labegorce in 2009. The family also acquired the third growth Margaux estate Château Marquis d’Alesme in 2006 and also own Chateau Tour de Mons. Since 2008 the estate has been run by Hubert’s daughter Nathalie Perrodo.

The 250 hectare estate has 70 hectares of vineyards planted with 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. The vineyards are planted on a combination of soils, 70% sandy-gravelly and 30% sandy-silty.

After harvest the grapes are vinified in a combination of concrete and stainless steel vats. The wine is allowed to undergo malolactic fermentation in tank and vat. The wine is aged for 12 to 14 months in oak barrels, 40 to 50% of which are new. Annual production is around 12,000 cases.

There is also a second wine called Zédé de Labégorce.
