AVO XO: Made With Extra Aged Tobaccos

The AVO XO Intermezzo Robusto is a well-built cigar with a lightish wrapper. It measures in at 5 inches with a ring gauge of 50, the same size as the VegaFina Nicaraguan Robustos and the La Invicta Honduran Robustos. The cigar is mainly made from Dominican tobacco with an Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper.

AVO Cigars: The Jazz Connection

The AVO cigar range was created by Avo Uvezian, a well-known composer, musician and, above all, a cigar connoisseur. Avo Uvezian was born in 1926, the son of a family of musicians in Beirut. Eventually, he would study classical piano and composition at the famous Juilliard School of Music. In the 1950s and 1969s, and after US military service, he pursued a career as a jazz musician.

In the early 1980s, Uvezian opened a restaurant and piano bar in Puerto Rico, and it was here that he discovered his love for cigars. He soon produced his own cigar brand to give away to guests. Eventually, he met Davidoff’s master cigar blender, Hendrik “Henke” Kelner, in the Dominican Republic, and by 1988, the first AVO cigars were being sold in New York. AVO cigars were bought by the luxury cigar producer Davidoff in 1995 and are made at the Oettinger Kelner Cigars factory.

AVO Cigars Made With Premium Dominican Tobaccos

AVO Cigars are all made from carefully selected tobaccos, which are aged until fully mature. The AVO blends combine a large proportion of specially fermented, matured Piloto Cubano tobacco from the Cibao Valley in the Dominican Republic. The binder leaf is the best Olor tobacco sourced from the Villa Gonzalez region, and an Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper leaf provides the perfect finishing touch.

The brand is renowned for its premium, handcrafted cigars that seamlessly blend tradition with innovation, reflecting Uvezian’s passion for both music and cigars. When it was first released, the AVO XO Cigar range was groundbreaking because the tobaccos were aged for at least six years, setting a standard that many others now follow. Many reviewers say that these cigars offer a good alternative to Davidoff cigars at a fraction of the price.
