Cigar Profile:
Plasencia Reserva Original Robusto cigars are made at the famous Plasencia Cigars Factory located to the north of Managua in Nicaragua. This classic robusto cigar is made from 100% Nicaraguan tobacco from the Esteli & Jalapa regions of Nicaragua.
The Plasencia Reserva Original range consists of the only cigars in the world that are made with 100% Certified Organic Tobacco. Indeed, Plasencia is the only OCIA-certified organic tobacco company. The Reserva Original line is also a testament to Plasencia’s commitment to sustainability, using no pesticides or artificial fertilisers.
Plasencia Cigars was founded by Don Eduardo Plasencia. Don Eduardo emigrated from the Canary Islands in 1865 to Cuba and began to grow tobacco. The farm remained in the Plasencia family until it was confiscated by Fidel Castro’s regime in 1963.
Don Elder Sixto and his family fled to Mexico, landing in Nicaragua in 1965, where he planted some of his best tobacco seeds. During more political unrest, the farms were burned by the Sandinistas in 1978, and the family fled to the Honduras. Nestor Plasencia Sr. joined the industry in 1987, and by 1990, the family had re-established operations in Nicaragua.
Plasencia Cigars is now the largest tobacco grower in the world and produces cigars for over 30 very well-known, premium cigar brands, including Rocky Patel and Alec Bradley. The company launched the first cigars under the Plasencia brand in 2017.
What sets Plasencia apart is their “seed-to-smoke” philosophy: they control every aspect of production, from planting and harvesting to ageing, blending, and hand-rolling.
The Plasencia Reserva Original Robusto delivers a balanced, medium-bodied smoking experience
Its light to medium brown wrapper has a subtle oily sheen and minimal veins, and encases a flawless hand-rolled construction. The cigar offers a clean, even burn with a firm, light-grey ash and an excellent draw.
Core flavours of roasted nuts and earthy undertones are accented by subtle honey and caramel sweetness in the first third, evolving into mild white pepper and cedar notes, especially on the retrohale. A smooth, creamy texture ties the profile together, ensuring a consistent, refined smoke.
Try with a lighter style of coffee, a good Bourbon, like Kentucky Vintage or try with a few squares of dark chocolate.
