Description

Kakira Distiller’s Cut Gin 47% ABV

Kakira Distiller’s Cut Gin 47% ABV is an award-winning African dry gin from Uganda, crafted using sugar-cane spirit and a distinctive blend of botanicals grown on the Kakira Estate. Distilled in a traditional copper pot still, this characterful gin brings together juniper, citrus, ginger, cardamom and black pepper. Bottled at a robust 47% ABV, it offers a bold, aromatic style that works beautifully in a classic gin and tonic or a range of gin cocktails.

How Is Kakira Distiller’s Cut Gin Made?

Kakira begins with its own sugar-cane spirit, produced from molasses left over from sugar production. The spirit is infused with a carefully selected blend of botanicals, which are steeped for 16 hours before being redistilled in a copper pot still. The gin is then cut to bottling strength with water from Lake Victoria and bottled at the Kakira Estate in Uganda.

This approach combines traditional distillation with a resource-conscious use of the sugar-making process, creating a distinctive gin with a strong sense of place.

Estate-Grown Ugandan Botanicals

Kakira Distiller’s Cut Gin is produced at the Kakira Estate in the Jinja region of Uganda, close to Lake Victoria and the source of the River Nile. The estate grows most of the botanicals used in the gin. Juniper berries are sourced from Italy, providing the familiar foundation of a classic dry gin.

  • Ginger
  • Lemongrass
  • Coriander
  • Black pepper
  • Bitter orange peel
  • Cardamom
  • Juniper berries (Sourced from Italy)

The combination of African-grown botanicals and Italian juniper gives this Ugandan gin its distinctive character, balancing traditional juniper-led flavours with citrus, aromatic herbs and warming spice.

Why Is It Called Distiller’s Cut?

Kakira Distiller’s Cut Gin 47% ABV is a bolder expression of Kakira’s Ugandan gin, bottled at a higher strength than the standard 40% ABV version. Made using sugar-cane spirit and a blend of botanicals, it offers an aromatic profile of juniper, citrus, ginger and warming spice. Its higher alcohol strength gives it extra presence in a gin and tonic or cocktail, allowing its distinctive botanical character to shine through.

About Kakira Distillery

Kakira is part of Kakira Sugar Limited, an established Ugandan sugar producer whose history dates back to the 1930s. The distillery transforms sugar-cane molasses into a range of spirits, including gin, Ugandan rum and vodka. By using a by-product of sugar production as the base for its spirits, Kakira makes use of an existing agricultural resource while developing a distinctive range of locally produced drinks.

Its grass-to-glass approach, estate-grown botanicals and traditional copper-pot distillation make Kakira Distiller’s Cut an appealing choice for anyone interested in discovering spirits beyond the usual European gin-producing countries.
