Four Roses Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is distilled at the Four Roses Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. It is a multi-award-winning whiskey and is bottled at 50% ABV.
Four Roses is the only Bourbon distillery that combines five proprietary yeast strains with two separate mashbills to produce ten distinct Bourbon Recipes. One mashbill is 60% corn, and the other is 75% corn. The lower corn mashbill contains 35% rye; significantly more than other Bourbons, resulting in a spicy, full-bodied taste.
There are 5 different yeast strains which produce the following characteristics:
V – Delicate Fruit
K – Slight Spice
O – Rich Fruit
Q – Floral Essence
F – Herbal Notes.
The art of the distiller is to carefully blend these to produce a balanced whisky.
Four Roses Single Barrel is a premium Kentucky Straight Bourbon bottled from individual, hand-selected barrels. Each bottle reflects the specific characteristics of the OBSV recipe, resulting in a spirit that is rich, bright, and complex with a long, mellow finish.
Mashbill B (High Rye):
60% Corn
35% Rye
5% Malted Barley
Yeast Strain: V (Delicate Fruit)
The use of the V yeast strain combined with the high rye content defines the signature character of this bourbon:
Aroma & Palate: Delicately fruity, spicy, and creamy.
Finish: Smooth, lingering, and exceptionally balanced.
Current bottling, Warehouse NS, Barrel 44-3H. Bottled at 100 Proof / 50% ABV. Aged 7 to 9 years.
The history of Four Roses can be traced back to 1888, when founder Paul Jones Jr. moved his thriving business to Louisville, Kentucky, where he opened an office in āWhiskey Rowā. Four years later, he trademarked the name Four Roses, claiming production and sales back to the 1860s.
The business prospered and, in 1922, the Paul Jones Company purchased the Frankfort Distilling Company. This was eventually purchased by Seagram in 1943, which actually stopped selling Four Roses Bourbon in the USA to concentrate on the European and Asian markets. Most recently, the company was bought by Kirin Brewery Company Ltd. in 2002.
Legendary Master Distiller Jim Rutledge, who joined Seagram in 1966, is principally responsible for the renaissance of Four Roses and became Master Distiller in 1995. Jim retired in 2015; by then, Four Roses Bourbon had been sold in the USA since 2004 and had become one of the most respected Bourbon brands. Brent Elliott, who worked alongside Jim for 10 years, is now the companyās new Master Distiller.
Aroma: Dried spice, pear, cocoa, vanilla and maple syrup.
Palate: Hints of ripe plum and cherries, robust and full-bodied, yet still mellow.
Finish: Smooth and delicately long.
