Domaine Faiveley Nuits St Georges 1er Cru Les Damodes is a red wine from the Côte de Nuits sub-region of Burgundy. Les Damodes is one of 41 climats within the Nuits-Saint-Georges AOC classified as Premier Cru vineyards. The Les Damodes vineyard borders the 1er Cru vineyard of Vosne Romanée, at the northern edge of the Nuits Saint Georges appellation.

Domaine Faiveley: Founded in 1825

Domaine Faiveley was founded in 1825 by Pierre Faiveley and has passed through seven generations of the family since then. The company headquarters can be found in Nuit St Georges and has been run since 2007 by Erwan Faiveley. Today the family owns over 120 hectares of vineyards in Burgundy, including 10 hectares of grand cru vineyards, nearly 25 hectares of 1er cru vineyards and other vineyards, including 68 hectares in the Cote Chalonnaise.

Domaine Faiveley Nuits St Georges 1er Cru Les Damodes Vineyard

The Les Damodes vineyard covers some 55 acres of which Domaine Faiveley own 2.01 acres. The vineyard has an easterly exposition with shallow, hard limestone soils. The vines were planted in 1950, 1983 and 1989.

Vinification

  • Grapes for Domaine Faiveley Nuits St Georges 1er Cru Les Damodes are harvested and sorted by hand.
  • A proportion of de-stemmed grapes and whole clusters varies by vintage.
  • Wines are punched down daily to extract colour, tannins, and aromas from grape skins.
  • After a 19-day vatting period, alcoholic fermentation is complete.
  • Free-run wine is run off using a gravity system.
  • Marc is pressed slowly and gently to extract exceptionally pure pressed wine.
  • Wines are aged for 16 months in French oak barrels (40-50% new oak, 50-60% one-wine barrels) selected for fine grain and moderate toast.
  • Wines age in Faiveley’s hygrometry-controlled cellars at consistent, natural temperatures.
  • Average annual production is 5,000 bottles.

Tasting Notes

Domaine Faiveley Nuits St Georges 1er Cru Les Damodes has a deep ruby red hue. The expressive nose opens up with black fruits, spice and subtle toasted notes. The attack is elegant and refined and the palate is characterised by floral notes and a touch of mocha

Serve With

Excellent with Beef tartare, venison stew and hard cheeses.
