Weingut Dorli Muhr Carnuntum | Austrian Red Wine Blend

The Weingut Dorli Muhr Carnuntum is a beautifully balanced Austrian red wine that combines the elegance of Blaufränkisch with the richness and spice of Syrah. Produced in the renowned Carnuntum wine region, just east of Vienna, this expressive blend showcases Dorli Muhr’s commitment to terroir-driven, organically farmed wines that are both refined and characterful.

Blending Austria’s signature red grape with the internationally acclaimed Syrah creates a wine of freshness, complexity and structure. Vibrant dark berry fruit, fragrant spice and silky tannins make this an excellent choice for lovers of Rhône blends, cool-climate Syrah and modern European red wines.

Whether enjoyed with food or on its own, Weingut Dorli Muhr Carnuntum offers exceptional value and a distinctive expression of one of Austria’s most exciting wine regions.

Dorli Muhr Carnuntum Winemaking

  • Grapes are sourced from the lower slopes of Spitzerberg, where deeper soils provide better water retention and promote even ripening.
  • Blend of 85% Blaufränkisch and 15% Syrah.
  • Organically grown fruit.
  • Fermented with wild yeasts in large wooden vats.
  • Gentle extraction with no temperature control during fermentation.
  • Matured for approximately two years in seasoned oak and acacia casks.
  • Bottled unfiltered to preserve character, texture and complexity.

The Unique Terroir and Microclimate of the Spitzerberg

Nestled in a narrow corridor between the Alps and the Carpathians, the Spitzerberg vineyard is a terroir of thrilling extremes, defined by fierce winds, low rainfall, and scorching 40°C summers. Crucially, sharply cool autumn nights provide a dramatic diurnal shift, allowing the grapes to achieve optimal ripeness with beautifully moderate alcohol levels while locking in a vibrant, crisp acidity. Rooted in deep, stony layers of sandy limestone, this environmental tension yields exceptionally balanced wines, and the wines of Spitzerberg are known for their elegance, freshness, minerality and ageing potential.

About Weingut Dorli Muhr

Founded by Dorli Muhr, Weingut Dorli Muhr represents a brilliant blend of family heritage and visionary winemaking. Already deeply immersed in the industry through her wine PR company, Wine&Partners, Dorli returned to her family’s roots – which began with a modest plot in Ried Roterd – by spearheading the replanting of historic plots of vines on the Spitzerberg hillside in 1995.

A Family Affair

The estate’s first commercial wines were released in 2002 alongside her then-husband Dirk Niepoort. Now encompassing 12 hectares of premium vines, the boutique estate remains a proudly family-run affair, with Dorli now joined by her daughter, Anna Niepoort, to champion these expressive Austrian wines.
