Description

Il Borro IGT is a Super Tuscan red wine made by the world-famous Ferragamo family at the foot of the Pratomagno Mountains in Tuscany. The estate has a wine making heritage stretching back to 1760 when the estate was under the rule of the noble Medici-Tornaquinci Family. The Ferragamo family purchased Il Borro in 1993 and have since planted and replanted 45 hectares of vineyards with classic Tuscan and French grape varieties. In conjunction with oenologist Niccolo D’Afflitto, the Ferragamo family have developed and improved the estate and a new, state of the art, winery was opened in 2004. Il Borro is the top red wine from the estate and is a blend of 50% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Syrah and 5% Petit Verdot. The grapes hand-harvested, destemmed and hand-sorted prior to a gentle pressing and temperature-controlled alcoholic fermentation over 10 days. The wine is left on the skins to macerate for 22 days and is then racked into new French Allier oak barriques where the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation. Il Borro is then aged for 18 months in barrel and a further 8 months in bottle prior to release.
