Description

Lapostolle Cuvee Alexandre Cabernet Sauvignon is a single vineyard red wine sourced from Lapostolle’s famous Apalta vineyard in the Colchagua Valley. The wine itself is principally Cabernet Sauvignon but there is normally a small component of other grape varieties included which varies from vintage to vintage.

The estate was founded by Alexander Marnier Lapostolle (whose family are the producers of the world-famous Grand Marnier orange brandy liqueur) and her husband Cyril de Bournet in 1994. Their mission was to create world-class wines using French expertise and the superb terroirs of Chile. Today, Lapostolle owns 370 hectares spread over three different vineyards and which have gradually been turned over to organic production. On September 30, 2011, the registered and accredited German-based environmental certification company CERES  (the Certification of Environmental Standards) authorized all Lapostolle estates in compliance with Chilean, North American, and the European required standard. Today all three of Lapostolle’s estates, Atalayas, Las Kuras and Apalta, do not use any artificial fertilizers, chemical pesticides, herbicides, plant growth regulators or genetically modified organisms. They are also certified Biodynamic by DEMETER.

Lapostolle Cuvee Alexandre Cabernet Sauvignon is made predominantly from grapes sourced from an old block of Cabernet Sauvignon vines in the Apalta Vineyard planted in 1920 on quartz and granitic soils. In the vineyard there is leaf removal and green harvest to fine tune yields and ensure the best possible ripe grapes are achieved. The 2018 vintage is actually a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Carmenère. The grapes are harvested by hand into small, 14kg cases and then undergo state-of-the-art optical sorting at the winery to ensure only the best fruit reached the vinification process. 15% of the grapes are de-stemmed. After pressing the juice is fermented using wild yeast in stainless steel. The wine is then matured for 12 months in 225L French oak barrels. The barrels are a combination from coopers including  Saury, Sylvain, Radoux, Seguin Moreau, Demptos and Taransaud.  No stabilization, no clarification and a very light filtration prior to bottling.
