Description

Lapostolle Grand Selection Merlot is the new name for what was previously known as Lapostolle Casa Merlot. The Grand Selection range is Lapostolle’s entry point and the Merlot is made from grapes harvested from the Rapel wine-growing region.

Lapostolle was founded by Alexandra Marnier Lapostolle and her husband Cyril de Bournet in 1994. The Marnier Lapostolle family, founders and owners of the world-renowned liqueur Grand Marnier, is famous for producing spirits and liqueurs, but the family has also been involved in winemaking for generations. In creating Lapostolle, the family has pursued the same uncompromising approach to quality that made Grand Marnier a global success. The Lapostolle winery is located in the town of Cunaco, right next to Santa Cruz. It is the original winery, where Lapostolle was founded in 1994 and today it is here where both the Casa and Cuvée Alexandre wines are produced. With a traditional Chilean old hacienda style, it has a production capacity of 3,300,000 litres in stainless steel and French oak tanks, and more than 3,500 French Oak Barrels.

Lapostolle Grand Selection Merlot 2015 is actually a blend of 86% Merlot, 12% Syrah and 2% Petit Verdot. The grapes are harvested into small wooden cases before being delivered to Lapostolle’s Colchagua winery. There is careful berry selection at the winery using a state of the art Vistalys Berry Selection system. The grapes are macerated for up to 4 weeks to extract maximum colour and structure prior to fermentation for about 2 weeks in stainless steel vats. 55% of the wine was aged in French oak barrels for 5 months and 45% in stainless steel vats. The result is great fruit expression with a fresh and pleasant palate. The wine was filtered before the bottling.
