Ramos Pinto Duas Quintas is a Douro red wine blend produced from two of the Port House’s Quintas: Quinta de Ervamoira and Quinta dos Bons Ares
Ramos Pinto was founded in 1880 by brothers Antonio and Adriano and has always had a pioneering spirit. In the early 20th century, it became noted for its innovative and enterprising commercial strategies, including the distinctive Art Nouveau advertising campaign. Ramos Pinto is run today by the heirs of these two energetic vintners: Jorge Rosas, Export Director and João Nicolau de Almeida, the oenologist who was responsible for officially identifying the five key grape varieties.
In 1990, Ramos Pinto became part of the Champagne Louis Roederer group, which shares a similar family-owned history and has since enjoyed significant investment and further improvements in quality.
The “two quintas” in question are Quinta de Ervamoira and Quinta dos Bons Ares. Quinta de Ervamoira is located in the heart of the Douro, in schist soil and at low altitude and the climate is hot and dry which allows the grapes to fully mature. At Quinta dos Bons Ares, which has a granite soil and is at a higher altitude, the grapes mature in fresher, windy conditions which lends them freshness and vivacity. Through careful blending the “Duas Quintas” is a unique, fruity, strong and complex wine.
Duas Quintas is a blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and the remaining portion is a blend of typical Douro grape varieties (Tinta Roriz, Tinta da Barca, Tinta Barroca, Sousão, Tinto Cão, Tinta Amarela).
The grapes are harvested by hand into 150kg box and are then crushed and destalked before fermentation in a combination of stone lagares and stainless steel. Following malolactic fermentation in vats, 20% of the wine is aged in French oak cask, 30% in oak barrels and the rest remains in stainless steel vats. The wine is bottled 13 months later.
Dark red in colour, clean and bright.
On the nose there are fresh aromas of berries such as blackberries, strawberries and raspberries. This is followed by fresh spices and warm, toasty aromas.
On the palate the fruit intensity and concentration are high. It finishes long and fresh, with soft tannins.
Duas Quintas Tinto stands out for the perfect harmony between its concentration and vivacity.
Great with a variety of dishes, grilled cod, vegetarian meals, as well as roast beef on a Sunday afternoon followed by cheese.
