Virgin Hills is the gem of the Macedon Ranges and is acclaimed as one of Australia’s iconic vineyards. Founded in 1968 by restaurateur Tom Lazar, the vineyard was hailed as visionary for its plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Malbec and Merlot in this cool climate region. In 1998, Virgin Hills was briefly acquired by a publicly listed company. It is now back under family ownership following its purchase in October 2000 by Michael Hope, a pharmacist turned vigneron. Michael has been successfully producing premium wine in the Hunter Valley since 1997. See his other winery website – Hope Estate.
The 2002 Virgin Hills is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (57%), Shiraz (30%), Merlot (8%) and Malbec (5%). The wine is aged 100% French oak, 50% in new barrels.
