San Leon Manzanilla Sherry is a type of Fino Sherry made in the town of Sanlucar de Barrameda.
Bodegas Argueso can trace its origins back to a grocery store founded by Mr. Leon de Argüeso y Argüeso in 1822. Eventually Argueso began buying and storing old barrels at the San Jose cellar. At his death in 1878 his nephews took over the running of the business which was greatyl expanded original core of the Bodega San Jose in Sanlucar de Barrameda. Gradually, a series of new buildings were added to complete the winery. Today Argueso Sherry has 26,000 square meters of covered cellar areas and now has 25 employees – it recognised by many as the best producer of Sherry in Sanlucar de Barrameda. San Leon Manzanilla Sherry is a type of Fino only made in the port of Sanlucar de Barrameda. It is made in exactly the same method as Fino Sherry but is often described as having a salty tang due to the barrels ageing warehouses close to the Guadalquivir estuary. The cooler temperatures and high humidity here also means that there is a thicker cap of Flor (the layer of yeast over the top of the Sherry) which means the wine is fresher and more delicate than other Finos. San Leon Manzanilla Sherry is made from 100% Palomino grapes and is aged for at least three years during the solera process.
