Forget-Brimont Brut Nature Zéro Dosage Vineyards & Blend

This wine is made from only the fruit sourced from the very best terroirs of the Montagne de Reims, including:

• Premier Cru: Ludes, Chigny-les-Roses, Montbré, Taissy
• Grand Cru: Mailly-Champagne, Verzenay, Verzy

The blend consists of:

  • 40% Pinot Noir
  • 40% Pinot Meunier
  • 20% Chardonnay

Somewhere between 40% and 50% of reserve wines are used in the blend to ensure added roundness, complexity and consistency. These chalk-rich soils and ideal growing conditions contribute to the wine’s freshness, finesse, and distinctive mineral character.

Champagne Forget-Brimont Brut Nature Zéro Dosage Vinification

  • The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully selected, followed by gentle whole-bunch pressing.
  • Only the “cuvée”, the first juices extracted, is used for Champagne Forget-Brimont Brut Nature Zéro Dosage..
  • Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats at a cool 17 to 20°C to preserve delicate aromas.
  • Malolactic fermentation follows, adding balance and roundness to the wine.
  • Secondary fermentation occurs in the bottle deep in the estate’s cellars, 15 metres underground, at a constant 11°C, which are perfect conditions for fine, persistent bubbles.
  • The wine is aged for approximately 5 years in the cellars, followed by several months of additional resting after disgorgement.
  • Dosage is 0 g/L

A Family-Owned Champagne House

Champagne Forget-Brimont is a small Champagne producer located in the village of Ludes. 6th Generation Champenoise Michel Forget is the co-owner and winemaker. The estate can trace its origins back to the early 19th century when Michel’s ancestor, Louis, first planted vineyards in the area. The Champagne Forget-Brimont brand was officially established in 1920 by another relative, Eugène. In 2000, Michel partnered with Frédéric Jorez to ensure the continuation of Forget-Brimont as an independent Champagne House.

A Négociant Manipulant Producer

The company owns 19 hectares of vineyards in the Montagne de Reims with Grand Cru vineyards at Mailly-Champagne, Verzenay and Verzy, and Premier Cru vineyards at Chigny-Les-Roses, Ludes, Montbré, Sermiers, Taissy and Villers-Allerand. Pinot Noir is their most planted grape variety. Although Champagne Forget-Brimont owns vineyards, it also buys grapes from other local growers. They are therefore classified as a Négociant Manipulant (NM) producer.

Perfect Cellaring Conditions

Champagne Forget-Brimont’s Cellars are dug out of the chalky soils (that Champagne is famous for) to a depth of 15 metres. This means that the cellars are at a constant temperature of 11°C in both summer and winter, the optimum ageing conditions for Champagne, creating fine bubbles and incomparable perlage.

Tasting Notes

Brut Nature vs Zero Dosage Champagne

Some of the sharper-eyed amongst you may have noticed that this Champagne is labelled as both Brut Nature and Zéro Dosage.

How can this be?

They are basically interchangeable terms for the driest champagne style with 0 to 3 g/L of residual sugar and no sugar added during disgorgement. It is also known as “Pas Dosé”, “Brut Sauvage” or “Dosage Zéro”.

Why 0 to 3 g/L?

Whilst no sugar is added, a “natural” residual sugar amount of approximately 1 to 2 g/L may remain from fermentation, which is why the range is 0 to 3 g/L rather than just zero.

What do Brut Nature and Zéro Champagnes taste like?

These dry Champagnes are characterised by high acidity, immense freshness, minerality, and a “raw” or “naked” expression of the fruit and terroir.
