Description

La Crema Sonoma Coast Chardonnay is a Californian white wine made from grapes sourced from the cool climate vineyards of Sonoma Coast.

La Crema: Jackson Family Wines Winery

La Crema Wines is owned by family-owned Jackson Family Wines and is managed by Laura Jackson-Giron and her sister Jennifer Jackson, daughters of the legendary Jess Jackson, founder of the iconic Kendall-Jackson winery.

Founded over 30 years ago, La Crema began life at its Russian River Valley estate. Over the years, however, they have specialised in sourcing grapes from California’s cool coastal regions, including Russian River Valley, Los Carneros, Anderson Valley, Sonoma Coast and Monterey. To this, one can now add their exciting new project in the Willamette Valley in Oregon. Many of these La Crema Wines are available at Fareham Wine Cellar.

Head Winemaker, Craig McAllister, employs a combination of traditional Burgundian wine-making techniques and modern Californian style.

Sonoma Coast Vineyards

The Chardonnay grapes for La Crema Sonoma Coast Chardonnay are hand-selected from cool estate and grower vineyard sites within the Sonoma Coast boundaries – all within 30 miles of the Pacific Ocean.

The region offers an unusually long, cool and steady growing season. Lingering fog and wind from the nearby Pacific Ocean moderate temperatures throughout the growing season and contribute to the slow ripening process. With an extended “hang” time on the vines, the results are small berries with firm acidity and highly concentrated aromas and flavours.

La Crema Sonoma Coast Chardonnay Winemaking

  • 100% Chardonnay fruit is gently pressed and settled for 24 hours.
  • Juice racked to barrel for fermentation.
  • 94%-barrel fermentation in a mix of French (75%) and American (25%) oak barrels, 17% new oak.
  • 15% of the lot was co-inoculated with a house strain of malolactic bacteria.
  • Co-inoculated barrels are used to top the remainder of the lot after primary fermentation.
  • Lees stirred monthly.
  • Wine aged on lees in barrel for approximately 6 months.

Tasting Notes

La Crema Sonoma Coast Chardonnay has aromas of Meyer lemon nectarine and Jasmine are followed by flavours of crisp green apple tangerine and yellow plum. On the palate the wine is concentrated and juicy with a lingering finish.

Food Pairing

Try with crab, lobster, shrimp and scallops dishes prepared in a buttery, creamy sauce. A simple roast chicken. Butternut squash risotto is an excellent choice.

Try this with Key lime pie for a taste sensation. It is also good with mature hard cheeses.
