Marques de Murrieta Blanco Reserva Capellania Rioja DOC is a single vineyard white Rioja made from 100% Viura grapes.
Marques de Murrieta was established in 1852 and is one of the oldest and most respected bodegas of Rioja. The bodega was acquired by D. Vicente Cebrián-Sagarriga, Count of Creixell 1983 and continues with a distinct winemaking philosophy that is founded in the pursuit of quality and excellence through tradition and innovation.
Vincente Dalmau, Cebrián-Sagarriga’s son, took over in 1996 following the sudden death of his father. He immediately set about revolutionising the entire estate, investing in both the winery and the vineyards and focusing much more on high quality, lower yields and limited production. Their wines are made in a “classic” Rioja style and receive long ageing in barrel before release. Their wines are concentrated and long-lived, both red and white, and some – like the Gran Reserva “Castillo Ygay” – have become legendary amongst Rioja-lovers.
Marques de Murrieta Blanco Reserva Capellania Rioja DOC is made exclusively from grapes harvested from the Capellania vineyard. This vineyard is located at an altitude of 485 metres, the highest vineyard on the estate, within the famous 300 hectare Ygay estate in the Rioja Alta. The Viura vines were planted in 1945.
The result is a surprising white wine of great bouquet, a white wine of character born to surprise by its uniqueness and perfect to accompany a great variety of rich dishes, with a magnificent potential to evolve and last gracefully in the bottle.
“The use of concrete in the fermentation process has taken Capellanía to a new dimension; longer, more complex and polished” María Vargas, technical Director.
Marques de Murrieta Blanco Reserva Capellania has a very expressive nose with a strong character; white fruit, fine
pastry, fennel, laurel and cedar aromas are harmoniously
assembled. With nerve and well-structured in the palate; refined
and lingering, great depth and lasting finish. It shows excellent
potential
