Pazo San José is a white wine from the Rias Baixas DO of Galicia. It is located in the O Rosal sub-region of Rias Baixas located further south, along the Portuguese frontier in the basin of the river Miño and extends inwards towards the town of Tui. The vineyards here are planted on terraces on the banks of the Miño. The soils are alluvial. Pazo San José passed through various owners until, in 1902, it was acquired by the Lago family and it was where Arzobispo (Archbishop) Lago lived, one of the most emblematic figures of Galician culture. In the year 2000 the estate was bought by the current owners, the Espina family, with the plan to produce the best white wine in the O Rosal region. Since its inception, Pazo San Jose has been dedicated to improving quality at every step in the production of grapes and the wine-making processes whilst respecting the land using as few chemicals as possible. All this helps to ensure minimal impact on the land and the environment whilst producing wine of the highest quality. The Minho river basin provides optimal conditions for growing grapes due to a local microclimate with less rain and warmer temperatures than the rest of Galicia.
