Description

Tamar Ridge Devils Corner Riesling is 100% Riesling source from vineyards in the Tamar valley and the east coast of the island. Tamar Ridge is a relative newcomer, with their first vines planted in 1994 and the first wines produced in 1999. They produce a range of cool climate wines including Pinot Noir, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris. They have three vineyards. Their main one is Kayena Vineyard in the lower Tamar Valley, White Hills Vineyard towards the top of the Tamar Valley and Coombend Vineyard in the east coast of Tasmania. Devils Corner Pinot Noir is 100% Pinot Noir sourced from the Tamar valley and the east coast of the island. The use of vineyards from different areas allows Tamar Ridge to be able to blend each vintage to produce a consistent, complex and richly flavoured wine. After harvest, the juice was run off the skins straight after pressing and is then cold-settled. The wine is then fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel vats which allows good control over the winemaking process allowing the aromatics and vibrant fruit flavours to be fully expressed. Tamar Ridge was bought by the famous Australian wine producers Brown Brothers in August 2010 and is also home to Pirie wines. Devils Corner wines have recently undergone a facelift and now sport a label by local Tasmanian artist, Rebecca Birrell, which was exlusively commissioned for this wine. It depicts ships on the Devils Corner, a section of the Tamar River that is a calm area of refuge for sailors away from the potentially wild waters of Whirlpool Reach to the south.
