Description

Trimbach Pinot Gris Reserve Personnelle is only made from grapes harvested in the best vintages from the choicest vineyard plots. This results in rich, weighty, opulent wines which can take many years to develop their full potential.

Trimbach Pinot Gris Reserve Personnelle Winemaking

  • 100% Pinot Gris grapes come from Trimbach’s Grand Cru Osterberg vineyard.
  • Grapes are hand-picked and gently pressed in a pneumatic press.
  • The juice runs into the cellar by gravity.
  • The juice clarifies naturally before fermentation.
  • Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature for 2-3 weeks.
  • Fermentation stopped naturally, leaving a very small amount of residual sugar.
  • The residual sugar is balanced by good ripe acidity, resulting in a beautiful balance in the wine.
  • Trimbach Pinot Gris Reserve Personnelle is not oak-aged, as the Trimbach family believes wood adds nothing to their wines, preferring extreme purity and concentrated fruit.
  • Bottling occurs early to preserve freshness.
  • Wines are bottle-aged before leaving the winery.

Maison Trimbach: An Alsace Wine Icon

Maison Trimbach (F. E. Trimbach) is, without question, one of the greatest names in wine-making in the French region of Alsace. Based in the town of Ribeauvillé, the Trimbach family has been involved in wine making for over 13 generations. The business was founded by Jean Trimbach in 1626 in Riquewihr and has since moved twice, in the 1840s to Hunawihr and most recently to Ribeauvillé after World War One.

Vineyards Located Around Ribeauvillé

Maison Trimbach has an enviable reputation for the quality of its entire range. Trimbach owns many vineyards located around Ribeauvillé and they also act as a negociant for local growers. Trimbach does not use the Alsace Grand Cru designation for any of their wines (although most of their top wines come from Grand Cru vineyard sites).

The estate’s 58 hectares of vineyards are spread over 50 parcels throughout villages like Hunawihr, Bergheim, and Riquewihr. The soils, which are mainly limestone with marl, sandstone and clay, contribute to the minerality and complexity of the wines. The nearby Vosges Mountains create a unique microclimate with low rainfall, sunny summers, and dry autumns, which is ideal for grape production.

Iconic Alsace Wines

Trimbach’s two most famous wines are Clos Ste Hune (a legendary dry Riesling from a single 1.67-hectare plot in the Rosacker Grand Cru vineyard) and Cuvée Frédéric Émile (from the Geisberg and Osterberg Grand Crus). The main focus is on Riesling, but they also produce fantastic Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Sylvaner, Pinot Blanc and Muscat.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: Pale to medium gold.
  • Nose: Rich and fragrant with ripe apricot, pear, mango, and a touch of botrytis; subtle flinty reduction, minerality, and hints of honey and tropical fruit.
  • Palate: Full-bodied and richly textured with very ripe stone and tropical fruits (apricot, pear, mango, peach); opulent and succulent mouthfeel, balanced by good acidity, minerality, and subtle residual sugar for freshness and structure. Precise, concentrated ripe pear with purity and restraint.
  • Finish: Long, harmonious, and elegant with lingering fruit, minerality, and vibrant acidity.
  • Overall style: Dry to off-dry, fruit-forward and concentrated with Trimbach’s signature purity.
