Apres La Pluie Le Beau Temps Rosé
Sunshine after the rain!
Edit 31/12/16: This wine has now become part of Katie’s range of wines, the current vintage is available here.
I know I keep going on about Katie Jones and Domaine Jones so most of you will know about the vandalism that she suffered earlier in the year. Katie Jones and Domaine Jones hit the national press recently when her winery was vandalised and she lost an entire vintage of white wine. Whilst Katie was showing her wines at Prowein in Germany someone broke into her winery, opened the taps on the vats containing her 2012 white wine and let it all drain away. Never one to shy from a challenge, Katie obviously subscribes to the “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade” philosophy and has joined up with local wine producers to make some “Recovery” parcels of wine which she has bottled and sold under other labels to help her keep going. We have just taken delivery of a small parcel of one of these Recovery wines called Apres La Pluie Le Beau Temps Rosé, a great Rosé from vineyards outside Montpelier.
Apres La Pluie Le Beau Temps Rosé Tasting Notes
This 100% Grenache from the Languedoc is a very pretty, pale, salmon pink colour. There are aromas of strawberry, red berries, some citrus-y aromas with a good mineral / stoney note. The nose smells, fresh, clean, sherbety and fruity. On the palate the wine is crisp and dry with more red berry flavours and perhaps a hint of zest, pink grapefruit. The wine is clean, crisp and dry but quite round with zingy, fresh acidity. Served well chilled it is ideal for summer drinking and is a great match for salads, shellfish or lounging on a day bed next to the swimming pool (or plastic garden chair next to bird bath).
From Katie’s website – ‘Après la pluie, le beau temps’ (sunshine after the rain) what better name for a deliciously happy rosé to chase away the clouds. Having limited amounts of wine available from my own vineyards, I have selected a deliciously fruity, dry rosé made from 100% grenache from other vineyards in the south of France.
So here is an opportunity to support Katie as she recovers from her loss and enjoy some great southern French wines. Look out for further releases in the Recovery Range series including red, white and sparkling wines.
