Post Scriptum de Chryseia

Post Scriptum de Chryseia is a red wine hailing from the Douro region, the same renowned terroir that gives birth to the world’s finest Port wines. However, unlike its fortified counterpart, Post Scriptum is a still, unfortified wine that offers a distinct and captivating expression of the Douro’s exceptional terroir. The Douro is a World Heritage site and one of the oldest established wine-producing regions in the world. It is, without doubt, one of the most distinctive terroirs in the history of world viticulture.

A Winemaking Joint Venture

The unique partnership of the Symington family’s unparalleled experience of port production in the Douro and Bruno Prats (previously winemaker at Cos D’Estournel vast wine-making experience of top-growth Bordeaux wines has resulted in wines which will most certainly become a cult classic of the future. The first vintage of Post Scriptum was introduced in 2002 as a partner to, the already famous, Chryseia. The wine can be considered as the second wine of Chryseia and is made from lots of grapes that don’t make the final selection for Chryseia.

The grapes are sourced primarily from Quinta da Perdiz in the Rio Torte. The blend for the 2009 is Touriga Nacional 41%, Touriga Franca 36%, Tinta Roriz 14% and Tinta Barocca 9%. The grapes undergo a manual triage at sorting tables after which the grapes are de-stemmed and gently crushed. The grapes are relayed to the fermentation vats by a gravity flow process, and once in the vats, they are inoculated with a specially selected cultured yeast, fermentation taking place between 26 and 27ºC. Maceration is very gentle and aimed at producing a wine intended for early drinking. The wine is aged for 10 months in French oak barrels of 400 L.
