The Juan Lopez Seleccion No 1 is one of two Cuban cigars produced by Juan Lopez. It is a well-proportioned Corona Gorda. Its smaller sibling is the robusto-sized Seleccion No 2. Measuring in at 5 ⅝ inches long with a 46 ring guage, it shares it size with Punch Punch and the Hoyo de Monterrey No 1 amongst others.
Juan Lopez is a relatively unknown brand in the UK but has always attracted a following amongst aficionados of Havanas The brand was founded by the Spaniard Juan Lopez Sena in 1876. The brand was sold by his heirs in 1918 to the Sociedad Cosme Del Peso y Cía in 1918. They continued to owne and produce the brand until the Cuban revolution of 1953 to 1959. At one point the brand was known as Flor de Juan Lopez.
The brand offers a consistent medium to full flavour based on a rich blend of filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone and both sizes are ‘tripa larga, totalmente a mano’ – long filler, totally handmade.
