Maison Trimbach Riesling is this historic estate’s calling card. It is produced in the house’s classic style: precise, dry, elegant, fruity, balanced and long-lived. It is the perfect wine for food pairing throughout the meal, from aperitif to the cheeseboard. Available to buy now at Fareham Wine Cellar.
Maison Trimbach (F. E. Trimbach) is, without question, one of the greatest names in wine-making in the French region of Alsace. Based in the town of Ribeauvillé, the Trimbach family has been involved in wine making for over 13 generations. The business was founded by Jean Trimbach in 1626 in Riquewihr and has since moved twice, in the 1840s to Hunawihr and most recently to Ribeauvillé after World War One.
Maison Trimbach has an enviable reputation for the quality of its entire range. Trimbach owns many vineyards located around Ribeauvillé and they also act as a negociant for local growers. Trimbach does not use the Alsace Grand Cru designation for any of their wines (although most of their top wines come from Grand Cru vineyard sites).
The estate’s 58 hectares of vineyards are spread over 50 parcels throughout villages like Hunawihr, Bergheim, and Riquewihr. The soils, which are mainly limestone with marl, sandstone and clay, contribute to the minerality and complexity of the wines. The nearby Vosges Mountains create a unique microclimate with low rainfall, sunny summers, and dry autumns, which is ideal for grape production.
Trimbach’s two most famous wines are Clos Ste Hune (a legendary dry Riesling from a single 1.67-hectare plot in the Rosacker Grand Cru vineyard) and Cuvée Frédéric Émile (from the Geisberg and Osterberg Grand Crus). The main focus is on Riesling, but they also produce fantastic Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Sylvaner, Pinot Blanc and Muscat.
This wine is suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
Trimbach Riesling is a bone-dry wine showcasing a precise and straight style true to the house’s philosophy. The wine is characterised by vibrant lemon and grapefruit notes, softened by delicate white peach nuances, creating a distinguished fruitiness. The delicate, aromatic bouquet and the perfect balance of dryness and vibrant liveliness create an exceptionally rich profile, resulting in a crisp, elegant Riesling.
Trimbach Riesling pairs beautifully with a variety of dishes. In Alsace it it paired with rich, local specialties like goose, sauerkraut, and onion quiche. It is also served with noble fish (like salmon, sea bass or turbot), shellfish, seafood, white meats and creamy white wine sauces.
The wines aromatic complexity also enhances modern oriental cuisine, from sushi to light curries, and rice-based dishes like kedgeree.
For the cheeseboard, try Munster, Comté, Tomme de Savoie, Morbier and Gruyère. Also a good match for fresher goats cheeses.
