Zuccardi Regiones Cabernet Franc is an Argentinian red wine made from 100% Cabernet Franc grapes sourced from vineyards in Paraje Altamira in the southern part of the Uco Valley, Mendoza. The wine was previously known as Zuccardi Apelacion Cabernet Franc.
Zuccardi Wines was founded by Alberto “Tito” Zuccardi. Zuccardi was an engineer who had arrived in Mendoza from the Tucuman province of northwestern Argentina, where his Italian grandparents had settled. Zuccardi was primarily working on irrigation systems which are very important in a region with minimal rainfall.
In 1963, the Zuccardi family began their winemaking journey when Alberto Zuccardi planted a vineyard in Maipu, Argentina. He did this to showcase his innovative irrigation system, marking the family’s entry into the wine industry. By 1968, the Zuccardi family started constructing their first winery. This laid the foundation for their growing legacy in crafting quality wines.
In 1976, Alberto’s son, José Zuccardi, joined the family business, bringing new energy and ideas. Later, in 2002, José’s son, Sebastián Zuccardi, became the family’s winemaker, continuing the tradition of excellence.
Sebastián’s talent earned him a spot as one of South America’s most exciting winemakers in 2019, according to Decanter Magazine. That same year, Zuccardi Valle de Uco was named “The World’s Best Vineyard,” highlighting the family’s dedication to producing exceptional wines.
Zuccardi Wines are based in the Valle de Uco and a new winery was completed in Paraje Altamira in 2013. The Valle de Uco is located at the foot of the Andes and runs north to south along the western edge of the Mendoza wine-growing region.
Zuccardi has several vineyard locations comprising some 800 hectares. As well as vineyards at the winery in Paraje Altamira, there are also vineyards in La Consulta, Vista Flores, Santa Rosa and Maipu. 35% of their vineyards have organic certification and the others are all sustainably managed.
This wine is part of Zuccardi’s “Vinos de Origen” range, a range of wines that express Argentina’s most representative grape varieties by recognising the best-growing regions specific to each and selecting top vineyard sites along the foothills of the Andes Mountains. The grapes for this wine come from vineyards in Paraje Altamira located at 1300 metres above sea level.
