Exton Park Pinot Meunier Rosé 2014 Vinification

  • 100% estate-grown Pinot Meunier from Exton Park’s own vineyard
  • Hand-picked from meticulously trained vines on chalk slopes
  • Made using the traditional method (the same as Champagne)
  • Bottled in 2015 and disgorged in 2025, spending 10 full years on the lees
  • 2014 delivered exceptional ripening conditions for Pinot Meunier at the estate

For this limited-edition release, fruit was sourced exclusively from mature, estate-grown Pinot Meunier vineyards planted on the steep chalk slopes of the South Downs. The grapes were gently pressed in an inert Bucher press located just moments from the vineyard. This careful handling minimised oxidation and preserved the grape’s delicate aromatics, vibrant red fruit character and distinctive coral-pink hue.

Exton Park Vineyard: A Hampshire Wine Pioneer

Located in the heart of Hampshire’s South Downs National Park, Exton Park Vineyard is recognised as one of England’s leading sparkling wine producers. The estate’s extensive chalk soils mirror those found in Champagne and provide ideal conditions for producing premium traditional method sparkling wines – check out their fabulous Exton Park Blanc de Noirs 2014 Vintage.

Under a philosophy focused on terroir expression, individual vineyard parcels are vinified “plot by plot” to capture the unique character of each site. This meticulous attention to detail has earned Exton Park a reputation for producing some of the most exciting and critically acclaimed English sparkling wines available today.

Exton Park Location

Exton Park is situated in the South Downs National Park just outside the small village of Exton, approximately 11 miles north of Fareham Wine Cellar. The single vineyard estate is planted on the same chalk soils of the South Downs as other notable Hampshire sparkling wines.

Hampshire Chalk Terroir – Meon Valley

Exton Park Vineyard was established with an initial 12 acres of vines planted in 2003, followed by a further 25 acres in 2009. The vineyards occupy south-facing slopes of deep Cretaceous chalk in the heart of Hampshire’s Meon Valley. Positioned along a ridge overlooking the River Meon and the iconic Old Winchester Hill, the estate benefits from a unique combination of elevation, aspect and chalk-rich soils.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: Exton Park Pinot Meunier Rosé 2014 has a beautifully elegant pale salmon colour with light copper hues.

Nose: An intriguing fusion of dried cranberry and cherry, layered with indulgent notes of Baklava and nutty pastry. Despite its age, it retains the signature Exton Park freshness with hints of lemon, pink grapefruit, and delicate cherry blossom.

Palate: Profound and diverse. The palate evolves from tense, mineral-driven acidity to a rich, savoury core. Flavours of redcurrant and white peach mingle with white chocolate, brioche, and a touch of rose petal, characteristic of high-quality Meunier.

Finish: Bone-dry and taut, defined by the fantastic precision and chalky minerality of the South Downs.

Food Pairing

The wine’s structural elegance makes it a versatile partner for the table. It pairs exceptionally well with fresh seafood, charcuterie, spicy cured meats, or mature hard cheeses.

  • Seafood: lobster, crab bisque, seared scallops or smoked salmon blinis
  • Charcuterie: prosciutto, bresaola, or English air-dried ham
  • Soft cheeses: Brie, Camembert or fresh burrata
  • Light poultry: roast guinea fowl or duck breast with cherry reduction
  • Desserts: strawberry tart, raspberry panna cotta or almond financiers

Serve chilled at 8–10°C in a tulip-shaped sparkling wine glass to enhance the wine’s aromatic complexity and mousse.
