Berton Vineyard Reserve Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic expression of one of Australia’s most celebrated wine regions. Sourced from the iconic Terra Rossa soils of Coonawarra, this Australian Cabernet Sauvignon delivers powerful, yet elegantly structured, dark fruit, blackcurrant, mint, eucalyptus, all classic Coonawarra signatures.
100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes come from a vineyard located in the world-renowned Terra Rossa region of Coonawarra. One parcel comes from an elevated part of the vineyard, which produces more subtle fruit characters. The warm days here are moderated by the cooling breezes of the Southern Ocean. The famous red soils are rich red loam over free-draining limestone soil and are responsible for Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon’s esteemed reputation.
Berton Vineyard was founded in May 1996 by Bob and Cherie Berton with an initial 75 acres (30 hectares) of gently rolling vineyards planted at 450 metres above sea level in the cool, high-altitude sub-region of High Eden, South Australia.
In 2005, with production reaching around 100 tonnes from their High Eden vineyard, Bob and Cherie made the strategic decision to purchase a winery. They partnered with Jamie Bennett and James Ceccato to acquire the former Southcorp facility in Yenda, New South Wales. The move to the new winery was completed in 2007.
Today, Berton Vineyard operates a state-of-the-art winery with a crushing capacity of 20,000 tonnes. This modern facility enables the team to produce high-quality, value-for-money wines from some of Australia’s most renowned wine regions, including Coonawarra and Adelaide Hills, alongside their premium single-vineyard and estate-grown offerings.
Berton Vineyard is a Member of Sustainable Winegrowing Australia.
