Taylor’s 2024 Vintage Port has officially been declared. This exceptional 2024 release marks a return to the classic, long-lived style that made Taylor Fladgate world-famous. Driven by linear precision, intense dark fruit, and rigid tannins, it displays the stunning freshness and aromatic purity that define the 2024 harvest. Don’t miss out on this historic declaration: reserve your bottle or case of Taylor’s 2024 Vintage Port now from Fareham Wine Cellar. There is also a small amount of Taylor’s Sentinels Vintage Port released.

“I am pleased to announce our decision to declare the Taylor’s 2024 Vintage release. This is the smallest ever release from Taylor’s. It has been 6 years since we declared a classic Vintage Port for Taylor’s and I am very excited about the exceptional quality. In keeping with the house style, the Taylor’s Vintage 2024 is showing great elegance and poise, firm structure and a powerful complex core of flavours that is very enjoyable now but will change and evolve in the cellar, as necessary.” – Adrian Bridge, Managing Director.

The 2024 Port Vintage

The 2024 Port Vintage marks the region’s first widespread, classic general declaration since 2017, celebrated as a spectacular return to a traditional, elegant style. Unlike recent heatwave-heavy years, a balanced growing season with unusually cool September nights slowed grape ripening to a crawl. This allowed the fruit to preserve phenomenal natural acidity, striking aromatic purity, and a firm, finely chiselled tannic structure, drawing early stylistic comparisons to legendary vintages like 1970 and 1994.

Virtually every major Port house, including Symington, Fladgate, and Niepoort, has declared the vintage, though quantities are exceptionally limited due to historically low yields. These wines trade sheer muscle for linear precision, vibrant tension, and crystalline fruit definition. Built for extraordinary longevity, the 2024s possess the flawless structural balance required to evolve gracefully in the cellar for the next 40 to 50 years, making them essential additions for serious collectors.

Taylor’s 2024 Vintage Port Components

The pinnacle of the house style, Taylor’s Vintage Ports are masterfully blended from the finest fruit grown on the estate’s flagship properties:

  • Quinta de Vargellas – Recognised as one of the world’s finest vineyards, Quinta de Vargellas is located in the east of the Douro and has been the historic backbone of the Taylor’s Vintage Port blend since 1893, celebrated for producing remarkably elegant, beautifully scented wines with focused fruit and fine, sinewy tannins.
  • Quinta de Terra Feita – As one of the Douro’s oldest estates, Quinta de Terra Feita has supplied Taylor’s since the 1890s, yielding powerful, full-bodied wines packed with rich berry flavours that inject crucial depth and volume into the classic Vintage Port blend.
  • Quinta do Junco – Added to Taylor’s estate in 1997, the famous, historic Quinta do Junco estate in the Pinhao Valley features sun-drenched, well-aerated hillside vineyards that yield massive, dense wines, contributing a vital layer of structure to the Taylor’s Vintage Port blend.

Following the harvest, the tasting panel meticulously selects the standout wines from these three vineyards to undergo a strict maturation process for two winters in traditional oak vats.

By the second spring, the wines are re-evaluated. If they meet Taylor’s uncompromising standards, they are expertly married together. Quinta de Vargellas provides the crucial backbone of structure, elegance, and aromatic complexity, while Terra Feita and Junco inject rich body, profound depth, and intense, concentrated black fruit.

Only when a blend exhibits truly monumental quality – characterised by a youthful austerity, immense structural power, and a vast depth of flavour – will a vintage be officially ‘declared.’ Because Taylor’s historically declares only about three years per decade, these rare, collectable bottles are built for legendary longevity. Renowned for balancing massive structure and aromatic intensity with a signature restraint, a mature Taylor’s Vintage Port represents the ultimate reward for decades of patient cellaring.

Tasting Notes

From Taylor’s, “Opaque purple black colour with a fine amethyst meniscus. Characteristically stylish and racy, with a nose of dense blackcurrant and woodland fruit, overlaid with delicate herbal nuances and scents of rose petals and violets. The Taylor elegance and understatement conceal the wine’s energy and vigour. On the palate, lean, tightly knit, sinewy tannins, beautifully balanced with vibrant and delineated fruit flavours and herbal notes, produce a stylish wine with the unmistakable Taylor combination of stamina and refinement.”
