Description

Simon Hackett Old Vine Grenache is a red wine made from Grenache grapes sourced from the Big Rivers wine-growing zone of Australia, a wine-growing region which covers the southwestern corner of the New South Wales.

About Simon Hackett

Simon Hackett Wines was founded by Simon Hackett. Simon Hackett was born and raised in the Barossa Valley, where his family have been connected with the wine trade for many generations. Indeed, four generations of the Hackett family followed agricultural pursuits in South Australia.

Simon began his winemaking career in 1968 at Saltram Winery, apprenticed under legendary winemaker Peter Lehmann. In 1973, he moved to McLaren Vale, joining the Southern Vales Co-operative Winery (now Tatachilla), where he worked under Grant Burge and rose to Senior Winemaker after eight years.

Simon Hackett Wines Established

In 1984, Simon founded his own label, initially as a part-time project. He acquired the former Taranga winery in 1998, allowing greater control over production. Yields are often very small and his entire annual production rarely exceeds 10,000 cases. Simon Hackett’s wines are the very essence of the winemaker himself – timelessly packaged, friendly and full of life.

Simon Hackett Old Vine Grenache Winemaking

The grapes for the Simon Hackett Old Vine Grenache are specially selected from small parcels of vines from South Eastern Australia. The vines are carefully cultivated with low yields, producing intensely-flavoured grapes of outstanding quality. 100% Grenache.

Big Rivers GI

The Big Rivers is a GI (Geographical Indication) created in 1996 and includes four wine-making regions: Murray Darling, Perricoota, Riverina and Swan Hill.

Tasting Notes

Vibrant crimson red with purple hues. Fragrant fresh cherries, red liquorice, supported by hints of chocolate, cinnamon and earthy aromas. On the palate there are sweet cheery, plum and mulberry flavours with hints of cocoa wrapped up in soft and silky tannins.

Food Pairing

A perfect match for red meat dishes.
