Torres Floralis Moscatel Oro is a sweet white dessert wine. The Torres family have been making Floralis Moscatel Oro since 1946 and it is one of the most famous Spanish dessert wines.
Familia Torres Wines has been making wine in the ancient Catalán town of Vilafranca del Penedès, southwest of Barcelona, since the 17th Century. It is this tradition combined with innovation, dynamism and commitment to quality that has put Torres firmly on the world map. They remain one of the largest family-owned and run wine companies in the world (there is also Miguel Torres Chile and Marimar Torres in California) and, under the stewardship of fourth-generation Miguel Torres they are committed to sustainable viticulture and green practices. Today Torres not only have vineyards in their home region of Penedes, but all over Spain in regions such as Priorat, Rioja and Rueda. In 2006 Torres was awarded European Winery of the Year in Wine Enthusiast’s Annual Wine Star Awards. The Torres family is also one of the founding members of Primum Familiae Vini.
Torres Floralis Moscatel Oro is made from the Muscat de Alejandría grape which gives a very aromatic and distinctive floral character to the wine. The Greeks called Muscat de Alejandría it “Anathelicon Moschaton” and the Romans “Apianae” because it attracted the bees that, from the Muscat flowers, make the delicious nectar of their honey.
The Muscat grapes are allowed to ripen and shrivel almost to raisins before pressing. The grapes are not fermented, but the must from the pressings is fortified with distilled wine alcohol to bring the overall strength to 15%. Sugar content 188 g/L.
A “vino de licor” in Spain refers to a sweet, fortified wine, essentially a liqueur wine, usually made by adding brandy to unfermented grape must, giving it a high sugar content and typically served as a dessert wine
Torres Floralis Moscatel Oro has an unmistakable and very particular aromatic profile that displays seductive floral fragrances (rose, geranium, lemon verbena). The palate is voluptuous, concentrated yet light, generous and delicately sensual.
Lovely as a chilled aperitif or as a dessert wine. Great with fruit and fruit salads and pastries.
It also works really well with blue cheeses like Roquefort or Stilton.
