Chateau de Beaulon Blanc 5 Year Old Pineau des Charentes is a mistelle: white grape juice fortified with grape spirit, which is then barrel-aged, in this case for a minimum of 5 years. Pineau des Charentes is available to buy at Fareham Wine Cellar.
Chateau de Beaulon is primarily a Cognac producer but, like most Cognac producers, they also produce a range of Pineau Des Charentes. Château de Beaulon was built in 1480 and is located in the commune of Saint-Dizant-du-Gua. It is one of the oldest and most authentic properties (Gothic / Renaissance) to be found in the Charente-Maritime Department.
The estate passed through the hands of many owners through the years, from the original de Vinsons family, the de Beaulon family, the Bishops of Bordeaux and various others. The modern history of the estate began when Christian Thomas acquired the Chateau in 1965. He was instrumental in getting the estate listed as a French historical monument in 1987. Their parks and gardens are listed by the Committee of Parks and Gardens of the French Ministry of Culture as one of the Remarkable Gardens of France.
The distillery, located in Lorignac, features four handcrafted copper pot stills. The Cognacs and Pineau des Charentes are aged in one of five ageing cellars. This ageing process, often exceeding minimum requirements, takes place in Limousin or Tronçais oak barrels.
Today, the estate has 94 hectares of vineyards planted on rolling chalk hillsides with the following grape varieties:
Chateau de Beaulon Pineau des Charentes Blanc 5 Year Old is a blend of the noble Bordeaux grape varieties Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc fortified with the estate’s own Cognac brandy (usually in the ratio of one third Cognac to two-thirds wine) before ageing for 5 years in oak barrels.

Château de Beaulon Pineau des Charentes Blanc 5 Year Old displays a light golden hue with deep straw tones.
Its nose offers delicate aromas of white flowers, honey, and vanilla, with hints of caramelised apple, nuts, and a touch of rancio.
On the palate, it is sweet, soft, and balanced, with flavours of mandarin, dried apricot, and honeyed fruit, complemented by subtle oak from 5 years of ageing.
It finishes clean and refreshing with lingering floral and citrus notes,
Serve lightly chilled as an aperitif.
This pairs well with Foie Gras, dishes prepared with cream, scallops, turbot or John Dory.
As a dessert wine, it is a great match with Zabaglione, delicately flavoured ice creams and pastries. It is also a natural partner to melon.
