Baron de Lustrac is a small Armagnac brand known as an “éleveur-negociant” or “merchant-producer”. As an éleveur-négociant, Baron de Lustrac work with a small, carefully selected group of around 20 producers and growers throughout the Armagnac region. The producers will age the Armagnac in oak barrels in their own cellars, but Baron de Lustrac are responsible for monitoring the ageing of the eau de vie, blending and bottling the final product.
Thus, Lustrac have a huge amount of control over the final product. All their Armagnacs, like this Baron de Lustrac 1986 Vintage Armagnac, are bottled at their bottling cellar in Nogaro in the heart of the Armagnac region. The team is led by founders José Barbe and Ina Bornemann.
Once distilled, the crystal-clear, colourless spirit is aged in 420-litre oak barrels made from Limousin or Monlezun oak from Gers.
After nearly 40 years in oak, this Armagnac presents a nose of dried fruits (prunes, figs, raisins), buttered rum, subtle florals, warm vanilla-oak spice, and a touch of rancio.
On the palate, it reveals rich layers of dried apricot, maple syrup, toasted nuts, and dark chocolate, balanced by gentle peppery spice and lemon curd brightness, leading to a long, smooth finish with fading sweetness, fine tannins, and clean, slightly drying elegance.
This exceptional 1986 vintage Armagnac is available in very limited quantities. Secure this superb 40th birthday gift for 2026 from Fareham Wine Cellar while stocks last.

Baron de Lustrac 1986 Vintage Armagnac opens with dried fruits (prunes, figs, raisins), buttered rum, subtle floral notes (hints of white flowers or violet), and warm oak spice with vanilla and a touch of rancio from extended barrel time.
On the palate, it offers rich, introspective depth—layers of dried apricot, maple syrup, toasted nuts, and dark chocolate, balanced by gentle spicy pepper and lemon curd-like brightness. The finish is long and smooth, with fading sweetness, fine tannins, and a clean, slightly drying elegance rather than overt richness.
The perfect after-dinner digestif.
Serve neat, at room temperature, in a tulip-shaped snifter or narrow brandy glass to concentrate the aroma.
Allow it to breathe for 10 to 15 minutes for the aromas to evolve.
It can also be paired with a cheeseboard, dark chocolate or a good Cuban cigar, like the Partagas Serie D No 4.
Why Choose 1986 Vintage Armagnac?
A 1986 vintage Armagnac is a truly personal gift, distilled the same year as the recipient’s birth or a significant milestone.
What is Baron de Lustrac 1986 Vintage Armagnac?
This is a single vintage French brandy made from grapes harvested in 1986. It is produced traditionally in copper pot stills and aged for decades in oak barrels.
Is this a genuine 1986 vintage Armagnac?
Yes. Le Bureau National Interprofessionnel de l’Armagnac (BNIA) regulates all aspects of Armagnac production from distillation, through to ageing and bottling. The totals of Armagnac held by every stockholder within the region are registered to the centilitre with the BNIA, with severe penalties if anything untoward occurs. Read more.
What is Rancio?
This is a prized characteristic found only in long-matured spirits. ‘Rancio’ describes the savoury, earthy, and nutty complexity – often compared to forest floor or dried mushrooms – that develops after decades in French oak barrels.
Is this a rare or collectable brandy?
Yes. Vintage Armagnacs like this are very limited-production and single-vintage bottlings from a respected négociant / producer are quite rare.
Whilst they are collectible the secondary market is not as active as the Scotch whisky market, for example.
Does this Armagnac require decanting or special storage?
No decanting is required. Store upright in a cool, dark place away from direct light and heat.
How long will this keep once opened?
If you follow the instructions above, this will keep for many months once opened.
