Suntory Hibiki 17 Year Old Blended Whisky is a blend of grain and malt whiskies with a minimum age of 17 years with a good proportion aged in very rare Japanese oak (Mizunara). The single malt whiskies are sourced from Suntory’s Yamazaki and Hakushu distilleries whilst the grain whisky comes from the Chita distillery.
The Suntory Hibiki range is the only blended Japanese whisky that Suntory produce. Hibiki, meaning resonance in Japanese, speaks to the soul and emotions of the most discerning whisky lover. Hibiki is presented in a 24 facet decanter type bottle. The 24 facets represent the 24 seasons of the ancient Japanese lunar calendar as well as the 24 hours of the day. This is truly blended whisky at its very best.
As an aside, this is the whisky made famous by Bill Murray playing an ageing celebrity promoting Hibiki 17 Year Old Whisky in a Japanese television advert in Sofia Coppola’s excellent 2003 film Lost in Translation.
