Description

Suntory Yamazaki Distillers Reserve is a no age statement Single Malt Japanese Whisky. Yamazaki is the No.1 single malt whisky in Japan.

Suntory own two distilleries in Japan – Hakushi and Yamazaki. The Yamazaki Distillery has the distinction of being the oldest distillery in Japan and was established in 1923 by the founder of Suntory, Shinjiro Torii. The distillery is located at the foot of Mount Tenno, outside of the city of Kyoto in a region formerly known as Minaseno. Minaseno is regarded as the source of some of the purest waters in Japan, Here, the pure spring water that bubbles up from the bamboo groves at the foot of Mount Tenno and is said to have been close to the heart of Sen no Rikyu, the Master of the Way of Tea. Not only is there an abundance of pure water, the misty climate at the convergence of the Katsura, Uji and Kizu rivers creates damp conditions ideal for ageing whisky in cask.

Yamazaki is Suntory’s flagship single malt whisky and is available in as a 12, 18, and 25 year old as well as this no age statement version. Suntory Yamazaki Distillers Reserve was launched in Spring 2014 and is carefully blended by Suntory’s Chief Blender, Shinji Fukuyo. This is a careful blend of old and young whiskies. The whisky is aged in a combination of ex Bordeaux red wine casks, ex Sherry casks and a portion in rare Japanese oak casks. The Japanese oak is known as Mizunara and casks made from this oak add a spicy component to the whisky.

Bottled at 43% ABV with no age statement.
