Mitchelton Print Shiraz is the flagship Shiraz in the Mitchelton range of wines.
Located in Victoria near the Goulbourn river, the Mitchelton Estate came into being when Colin Preece was hired by Melbourne entrepreneur Ross Shelmerdine to find the best wine grape growing area in South Eastern Australia. Preece chose an old grazing estate, Blackwood Park, in Victoria’s Nagambie district for the climate, soil and proximity to waterways. The first vintage of Mitchelton wines was released in 1973.
Print Shiraz is made from selected parcels of Shiraz grapes sourced from low-yielding vines from the oldest blocks on the Mitchelton estate. The Shiraz batches are fermented in temperature-controlled, small, open fermenters. After pressing the wines are pumped into barrels where the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and is matured for 18 months in a selection of French barrels (40% new).
Mitchelton Print Shiraz’s label is a copy of a wood-cut called “In Woos Wood”.
